What is Headgear?
It is an orthodontic appliance that will create a polling or pushing force on the upper jaw and teeth to guide them into position. It will be worn by the patient for at least 10 hours a day to be effective, and the average length of the treatment is 12 month.
When Headgear is Needed?
Headgear is typically used in patients to correct overbites (class II) by holding back the upper jaw, allowing the lower jaw to grow and catch up. Other cases headgear is useful is to hold back teeth from tilting into spaces after extraction.
