What is Leukoplakia?
Leukoplakia is a clinical term for a white oral tissue that cannot be rubbed or diagnosed as another disease. Even that leukoplakia considered as a precancerous lesion, but in most cases it is not.
What cause leukoplakia?
Tobacco in smoked or smokeless forms. Alcohol abuse. Trauma to the tissues. Some form of oral fungus (candida albicans infection). Iron deficiency anemia.
Treatment:
First step is eliminating all factors or habits that might be related to the lesion. Biopsy is required to check the lesion under a microscope. Surgery might be required in extensive cases of leukoplakia.
