Shenandoah Life Announces Enhanced DentaStar Dental Plan

ROANOKE, Va., June 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Shenandoah Life Insurance Company has enhanced its DentaStar dental product to allow up to two periodontal maintenance procedures and two cleanings per year. Preventive dental care is an important wellness benefit for employees and their families. Recent studies show that poor oral care can lead to tooth decay and gum disease. In fact, the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research found that nearly 80 percent of Americans have some form of periodontal disease. Proper oral care, including routine dental exams and cleanings, plays an important role in keeping the mouth healthy.

"We believe that expanding our dental coverage is fundamental to our commitment to oral health and to ensuring the best coverage for employees and their families," said Cynthia Light, Vice President of Marketing and Sales for Shenandoah Life Insurance Company.

Poor oral care can also have an effect on employees' productivity. According to the Center for Disease Control, employed adults lose more than 164 million hours of work each year due to oral health problems or dental visits.

Employers can offer DentaStar as an integrated part of their benefits plan or on a strictly voluntary basis. In addition to its enhanced dental plan, Shenandoah Life offers a full line of group insurance products including vision, life, and long term and short term disability. Products are available to employers of all sizes, from two lives plus.

Shenandoah Life Insurance Company, headquartered in Roanoke, Va. is a mutual life insurance company with more than $1.9 billion in assets and $15 billion of insurance in force (source: 2007 audited annual financial statements). The company was founded in 1914 and operates in 31 states and the District of Columbia.
