20 y/o Caucasian male, all 4 wisdom teeth removed last Tuesday experiencing mild tingling sensation w/ numbness localized to the right side of the tongue. Also experiencing occasional slightly yellow green tinge to saliva on occasion and a faint metallic taste. This has been persistent since the surgery was performed. Was taking percoset in combination with 800mg Ibuprofen for 4 days, was seen for f/u and Rx changed to hydrocodone 5mg/APAP 500mg q6h, and clindamycin 150mg q8h. Continued taking the ibuprofen 800mg q6h with the hydrocodone.

I know that there is a possibility of permanent nerve damage with the extraction of either of the lower wisdom teeth. However, I do not know what is causing the faint metallic taste, only on the posterior right half of my tongue. if anyone could give me a clue as to what this might be, I would appreciate it. The swelling from the surgery has almost vanished on the left side, however the right half of my lower jaw remains firm and slightly swollen. I am curious about what anyone here might think about my case and what I should do, as my own doctor doesn't seem to know. Thanks

Metallic taste in the mouth can be due to many factors:
1- Electric current in the oral cavity caused by having different types of metal in the mouth as in crowns, amalgam fillings.
2-Medication
3-Bleeding and blood clots and most likely you are experiencing that.

In regard to the numbness the damage could be temporary if the numbness starts fading away and the sensation goes back normal within the first six month of the surgery, otherwise it could be permanent.
