I am in the process of getting an upper dental plate. My lower dental work has no plate and is satisfactory at this time.

I have several poor teeth at the upper front of my mounth, which the dentist says should come out before the plate work is complete. However, he also says the poor teeth do not absolutely have to come out.

Since the teeth in question do not bother me, I do not see why they should come out at this time. I would like to use the new plate with the poor teeth still in place. Later, if a problem develops with one of the poor teeth, it can be removed at that time.

Would appreciate comments.

Regards, George

I could not understand when you write that the dentist recommending extracting the front teeth and at the same time saying the teeth do not need to be removed, In general the proper treatment plan has to be as follows:

1- Extracting the teeth that can not be saved (poor prognosis teeth).
2- Treating and maintaining the good teeth.
3- Fabricating a plate to restore the bite function.

If you do not wish to have the questionable teeth removed and would like to spend the money on a plate that might have to be changed or modified in the near future is up to you but probeply not recommended, your dentist should be able to help you making that decision.
