Abrasion

Tooth wear caused by mechanical forces or improper brushing.

 

Abscess

A localized collection of pus caused by an infection in the bone or soft tissue.

 

Abutment

A tooth that supports a dental prosthesis (brideg, partial denture, etc.)

 

Air Abrasion

The use of a high pressure spray of aluminum oxide, which cuts through the tooth structure and removes decay, and old white filings.

 

Alveolar bone

The bone that surround the roots of the teeth.

 

Alveoloplasty

A surgical procedure that inveolve cutting and recontouring the alveolar bone.

A mix of mercury and silver alloy that is used as a restoration to fill cavities.

 

Anorexia Nervosa

Bicuspid

Tooth with two cusps located between the cuspid and molar, also called premolar.

 

Biopsy

A process of removing tissues to examined for pathology existance.

 

Bleaching

Teeth whitening procedure using whitening solution.

 

Bridge

A bridge is a custom device anchored to neighboring teeth that replaces one or more missing teeth.

 

Bulimia

Bulimia is a an eating disorder involving episodes of binge eating followed by episodes of purging, which can involve vomiting, abusing laxatives, diuretics, exercising compulsively, or fasting.

 

CAD/CAM

A computerized tool that will allow the dentist to custom-fabricate tooth colored restoration in the dental office and cement it, in one appointment.

 

Calculus

Hard deposit of mineralized plaque that adhere to the crown and root of the teeth. Also called Tarter.

A specialty of dentistry limited to treating diseases and injuries of the pulp and the tissues surrounding the root of the tooth.

 

Excision

A surgical procedure to completely remove bone or tissues.

 

Extraction

A dental procedure to remove a tooth.

 

Filling

A restoration of lost tooth structure by using materials such as alloy (Amalgam), composite, or porcelain.

Dental overjet is when upper front teeth that protrude beyond the lower front teeth, caused by problems in jaws bone growth, short lower jaw comparing to the upper jaw.
